And on this week’s show!

Do you find the holidays hard? On the final show of the year for 2021, I invite one of my oldest friends, Pippa Baker onto the show, who is a Mental Health First Aid specialist, training and supporting people from corporate to schools to social groups in all things resilience and mental health – how to feel empowered, focused on what you can control, and grateful – even on a day it’s only for a nice punnet of strawberries as she shares during our chat about a particularly tough day in the past year. We talk about the challenge of the holiday season from managing energy to loss and grief, to people who disagree with you or you with them and we carve out a path of kindness, compassion, and gratitude, finishing up with some golden tips on raising kids who can do hard things.

About Pippa Baker

In February 2017, I began volunteering for a charity in Scone, Where There’s a Will. Our charity fully funds wellbeing and strength programmes for pre-schoolers up to senior school. I facilitate the MHFA (mental health first aid) program.

My journey to develop a passion for wellbeing began In April 2017 when my bridesmaid lost her battle with mental illness (I won’t mention names; she has kids and a widow) which devastated me and I believe if she had education on mental health 25 years ago, I believe she would have made different choices or at least been informed about mental health.

Also, the ’90s had a number of friends battling different mental health issues and they were largely left alone as everybody was too scared to offend the person or say the wrong thing. Isolation is a big issue with mentally ill people already feeling worthless. Poor education led to much worse outcomes.

I’m proud to be a principal master instructor in MHFA since October 2019, the highest rung for instructors who are the most active.

I was drawn to studying more about mental health because the more I learnt, the more I realised how simple it can be to keep ourselves enjoying wellbeing. Also, there are many tools all of us can develop to help others.

My passion is instilling confidence in everyone who does the training to approach somebody if they’ve noticed a change in their thinking, feeling, or behaviour.
