PFAS: Forever Chemicals. They’re everywhere. We’re worried. But it seems insurmountable to tackle. This week, we start to do just that with the first of two shows airing, to understand the situation, what we can do for our health, and how we can show up in the community to drive better policy and regulation against PFAS polluters.
Professor Ian Wright, a water scientist with 4 decades of experience, thinks it’s time we all get involved in PFAS and advocate for change.
Thanks to films like Dark Waters and How to Poison a Planet, awareness of PFAS and its effects is growing. Now it’s time for us to advocate more and stop polluters polluting for profit and just paying people off in courts.
In this show we discuss:
- Different water types and levels found – Tank, Ground, Ocean, Damns and Fresh water.
- Emergency and military activities and how they impact PFAS levels
- Common ways we can at least minimise our personal risk everyday
- The extent of the issue, largely being a repeated ‘kick down the road’ policy choice

About Professor Ian Wright
Ian Wright is a water scientist, researcher, teacher, and advocate for clean and healthy waterways. He works with communities to help address water contamination issues. He is an Associate Professor in Western Sydney University’s School of Science.
Prior to joining the university, Ian worked for more than 15 years in the urban water industry, mainly at Sydney Water. His scientific interests include freshwater ecology, water chemistry, and water pollution, including both its science and management.
